Friday 15th September 2023

Hello everyone,

What a fantastic week it has been here at Llangan! We have had so many exciting activities happening, and I can't wait to share them all with you.

Firstly, on Thursday 13th of September, we celebrated the life and works of the incredible author, Roald Dahl. The whole school community got involved, and it was a sight to behold! The pupils came to school dressed up as their favourite Roald Dahl characters, and I must say, the costumes were absolutely amazing. A big thank you to all the parents who helped with the costumes at home.

We started the day with a special assembly where we learned more about Roald Dahl's extraordinary life. The children even had the chance to showcase their costumes in our Dahl-icious fashion show. It was such a joy to see their creativity and enthusiasm. Later on, each year group paired up, allowing the older pupils to read to the younger ones. They shared their favourite Roald Dahl stories, promoting a love for literature and reading throughout the school. In addition, all the classes engaged in various Roald Dahl-themed learning activities. It was a truly magical day!

On Wednesday 13th, our Plaza Classes (Years 3, 4, and 5) had an exciting visit to the Caerleon Roman Museum. They had the opportunity to explore the real Roman collections, try on replica Roman armour, and even participate in a workshop led by a costumed Roman facilitator. It was an educational and fun-filled day for our pupils, and I'm sure they had a blast!

Last Friday, we held our pupil voice elections to vote for Llangan's Head Boy, Head Girl, and deputies. The candidates from Year 6 wrote and delivered incredible speeches in front of the whole school. I was blown away by the standard of their speeches, and I want to say a big well done to all the candidates. You were all fantastic!

On Monday, we had an INSET day, which means the school was closed for the day. Our staff had the opportunity to receive training from Educational Consultant Nick Jones on achieving excellence in teaching and learning. It was a valuable learning experience for our teachers, as they collaborated with colleagues from our partner schools to enhance their professional skills. In addition, Mrs. Finucane joined the nursery teachers from our local primaries to work on our cluster of schools' Initial Assessment. This assessment will help us measure each pupil's progress, and the results will be shared at Parents' Evening. Working closely with our partner schools ensures consistency, standards, and reliability.

Lastly, you may have noticed the scaffolding on the old school building. The contractors have been fixing the roof, as it was not completed correctly four years ago and suffered damage during Storm Dennis. The builders have now fixed the roof and ensured its safety. We had to wait until September to do the work because we have a colony of bats living in the roof's loft, and ecology surveys dictated that the work could only start now.

That's all for this week's newsletter. I hope you enjoyed reading about all the exciting things happening at Llangan. Have a wonderful weekend, and I'll see you all next week!

Best wishes,
